So Many Dumpsters, So Little Time!
So how do you choose the right dumpster for the job? The process is easier than you think. If you are disposing of one particular type of heavy debris, such as concrete or bricks, then you’ll be set with a 10 yard dumpster. This particular size is set aside for heavier materials that can’t be transported in volumes exceeding 5 cubic yards; any size bigger than that would be too heavy for our trucks to pick up.
As for other, less heavy, debris the choice is a bit more nuanced. The primary factor affecting your decision is going to come down to the overall size of your debris pile. If you have more than 2 tons of debris, either household or construction/demolition, then the 10 yard dumpster is already out of the running. But that still leaves you with a choice between the 15, 20, 30, and 40 yard sizes, and that’s where we separate the wheat from the chaff.
In order to further narrow down your choice, you must consider just how bulky your materials are. For instance, if you are cleaning out a relative’s home then you are likely to come across a number of big appliances. We’re talking fridges, freezers, wine coolers, (these have special disposal rules as well) sinks, stoves, and dishwashers. All of these appliances are not only heavy, they are BIG (note the caps). These are going to fill up your dumpster pretty quickly, especially if you only rented a 15 or 20 yard dumpster.
Those in-between sizes are great when you have a lot of smaller individual pieces to throw away, like boxes or assorted junk. But when those individual pieces of junk are measured in feet, rather than inches, you’re going to need something closer to a 30 or 40 yard dumpster. These sizes are great for huge projects that are going to keep you occupied for a couple of weeks, or even a month. The 30 yard dumpster can accommodate 4 tons of debris, while the 40 yard is comfortable with up to 6 tons. Either size will make a great choice when you’ve got multiple tons of debris to haul out of your work site.
